Yes, it’s true that tik tok is growing insanely fast and currently has more downloads in the app stores than facebook, instagram or snapchat – but still, the app’s main focus is a very specific target group. Which one? Let’s see.
TikTok’s has 800 million monthly active users around the globe.
In September 2020, official TikTok user figures for Europe were published for the first time. More than 100 million people use TikTok in Europe at least once a month.
Unlike Twitter, Snapchat, and Facebook, however, TikTok gives monthly user numbers and not daily ones, which are usually lower.
BUT: The main focus of Tiktok is on Generation Z.
Although it is a chinese app you can see how big TikTok’s influence is outside of China.
The app already has more than 30 million active users in the U.S. and, of course, 100 million in Europe.
However one should not forget that 500 million of the total 800 million active users are still from China. At the same time, it should not be ignored that TikTok is the first social network from China that is also successful internationally.
In the first quarter, TikTok was the most successful app in the app stores. Even ahead of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and Pinterest.
But – TikTok is still relatively far behind Instagram, for example, which has over 110 million users in the USA, but the speed at which TikTok is growing is remarkable.
It is not only relevant how many people use TikTok, but also what the demographics of these people look like. That TikTok is a younger social network like Facebook should come as no surprise.
69% of active users are between 16 and 24 years old.
This means that 31% of users are over 25, but then things start to get thin. Only 15% are older than 35.
60% are female TikTok users and the distribution between iOs and Android is almost balanced, with a slight advantage for iOS with 54%.
The numbers are a combination of Future Biz‘ data and from app analytics service provider Sensor Tower.
